The Skelton Show Story | 2024 will be our 128th Show!
Skelton Show has been running since 1881 and grown from a small local show held in the village to one of the major agricultural shows in Cumbria. It is now held on the first Saturday in July in the picturesque setting of the Old Park at Hutton in the Forest near Penrith (3 miles NW of M6 Jun 41)
The show has a large horticultural and industrial marquee and classes of cattle, sheep, horses, dogs, vintage vehicles, fur and feathered animals and Cumberland and Westmorland wrestling. With well over 150 trade stands, a gift and crafts tent, Skelton Food Hall, a wide variety of entertainment, music, food and bar it has a reputation for being a great day out in the country for all the family.
It is run by a committee of volunteers and exists to promote the interests of those engaged in horticulture, farming and agriculture by providing facilities for competition, the sharing of information and best practice. Each year a new president is elected with the Chairman holding office for four years.
An event of this size is always looking for volunteers so if you would like to help us on show day please contact our Show Director.
Schedules containing details of the wide variety of classes are issued at the end of April and entries need to be made by the middle of June. Tenders for fast food and ice cream are sought each December and applications for trade exhibitor space can be made from January.
The committee meets throughout the year in the Toppin Memorial Hall Skelton and everyone is welcome to join either as a member or as a volonteer on the lead up or during the show day itself.
