The Annual General Meeting of Skelton Show was held in the Toppin Memorial Hall, Skelton on Wednesday 26th January 2022 and also via Zoom with a very good attendance by committee members.
David Irving, former Chairman and President this year, opened the meeting with a minute’s silence in remembrance of the late President David Porter before the formal proceedings commenced. Minutes of the last AGM were read out and signed, followed by a very brief Secretary’s report, due to no shows, but which did include us noting that this was Antonia Reid’s 20th year as Secretary!
Mr Porter’s daughter had written in to say that her father had been honored to be made President and was only saddened that he never got his day, but it had given him something to focus on and they were very grateful. She also thanked the committee for the raffle and collection, at the recent successful annual dinner dance, in aid of his favourite charity ‘Hospice at Home’.
Charlotte Armstrong, Treasurer gave her report on the finances of Skelton Show. She reported that although there was a minor loss last year, with the prompt decision not to hold the show in 2021, these losses were kept to a minimum.
All existing officers were re-elected.
Chairman Colin Atkinson reflected on the difficulties in the last year and the sad passing of the show’s President. He reported on the cancelled sponsor’s evening which was due to take place in January, hosted by kind permission of Philip Cranston, but will be re-scheduled in March. Colin is looking forward to this year’s show and thanked the committee, volunteers and head stewards for all their hard work.
John Slee, Show Director stated that the development of a new show website is underway and trade stand bookings were now open. However, to successfully run the 2022 show of this size in a Covid safe and secure manner, will require many additional stewards and marshals. Keen to keep the admission costs the same as previous years, the society are seeking additional volunteers to help on the day. New jobs include:
Obviously, the Show Society will work closely with the Public Authorities to ensure that a safe event can be held in accordance with whatever guidelines are in force next July.
So the Skelton Show committee is Calling for more Volunteers!! As an incentive, the society are offering an additional free ticket to all new volunteers who can give 4 hours or more on the day of the show with a Rota drawn up to ensure volunteers have enough time to still enjoy our wonderful agricultural show.
Anyone willing to help should contact John Slee on M: 07971 446286 | email John direct so a list of potential helpers can be compiled over the next few months and we have confidence to continue to say that the ‘show will go on!’
All formal proceedings were completed for the AGM and it was noted that the date of the next Skelton Show meeting will be Wednesday 23rd February 7.30 pm to discuss the Schedule and 2022 Skelton Show
